Telephone operators in Europe have begun the transition away from 2G and 3G mobile networks in favour of more modern, secure and efficient technologies (such as 4G, LTE-M and 5G).

Article updated on 12/01/2026

Are you an individual? There is another version of this article with all the information about the 2G/3G switch-off on our dedicated page.

The phasing out of 2G/3G: what you need to know

2G and 3G technologies have been around since the 1990s/2000s, and are now considered obsolete. Their maintenance is costly, their performance is limited, and there are growing concerns about their safety and energy efficiency, all leading to this switch-off.

This phasing out is part of a worldwide effort to modernise and transform telecommunications networks and therefore does not just apply to France (even if the timings vary depending on the country).

Lots of professional devices still completely rely on 2G/3G technologies, for example, remote monitoring, remote assistance, security, and even lift operating businesses.

Good to know

Telephone operators have also announced the end of PSTN lines by 2030, with a gradual migration of lines to IP from 2023. Depending on the deployment schedule, you can connect your customer's Delta Dore PSTN transmitter to their operator's hub. Its functions will therefore be preserved (although it will be dependent on the hub's mains power supply).

The operators' planned switch-off timings are:

Operator

2G Shutdown

3G Shutdown

Vodafone

Planned around 2033

In progress (2024–2025)

EE

Planned around 2033

Completed in 2024

O2

No 2G network

Completed in 2024

These dates are those communicated by the operators and are subject to change. We'll be updating this article regularly to keep you informed.

Network changes may differ from one zone to another. Before installing or migrating, we recommend you check local mobile phone coverage.

What impact will this have on our 2G/3G solutions?

We have been working for several months to provide you with the best upgrade solutions based on the products currently installed at your clients' sites, and we will keep you regularly informed of the different options you can implement at your construction sites.

Products directly affected by the 2G* switch-off:

  • TTGSM** (ref. 6414117) from the Tyxal+ range
  • Tydom 315** (ref. 6701017) from the Tyxal X2D range (before 2014)

The product impacted by the 2G and 3G switch-off:

  • The Tydom 2.0 (ref. 6414118): The Tydom 2.0 may also be affected by the 2G network switch-off, as in some zones 2G can be upgraded directly to 4G, without maintaining 3G.  In this case, GSM communication may no longer be guaranteed, even if the national 3G switch-off has not yet happened.

Our replacement solution

The new Tyxal+ Hub will be available from spring 2026 and is designed to support future communications, allowing you to replace or migrate your customers' existing installations.

Here are a few preview features:

✔️ Flexible smart siren control panel connected to Ethernet/Wi-Fi and/or 4G (in main or standby mode)
✔️ Integrated 4G transmitter (voice and/or SMS)
✔️ Configuring and controlling the alarm via the Tydom app
✔️ Compatible with existing Tyxal+ peripherals (X3D)
✔️ Compatible with Tycam cameras
✔️ Remote maintenance managed by professionals
✔️ Compatible with remote monitoring

What can you do with older products?

  • Keep a Tydom 2.0 as an additional piece of kit

The Tydom 2.0 can be kept on existing sites to continue to benefit from alerts via Tydom notifications (without adding a Hub), and also be used in conjunction with a Tyxal+ Hub to control Delta Dore smart home equipment and manage routines.

  • End of life for old equipment  ♻️

We recommend that you dispose of your products at approved recycling centres or WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collection points.

Support programme for the end of 2G/3G

  • For you, the professionals

Take advantage of pricing offers to help you migrate your existing installations to the new Tyxal+ Hub.These pricing offers will be subject to the authentication of your customers’ equipment. The details are currently being worked out and will be shared with you as soon as they are ready.

  • For your customers, Tydom 2.0 and TTGSM users

We will be publishing an article on our website explaining the finer details of the end of 2G and 3G networks and the impact on Delta Dore's end-user solutions. We will add it to the useful links below, so you can share it with your customers. In addition, as soon as the new Tyxal+ Hub is released, we will be launching an email information campaign.

* Note that products in the former Tydom320/330, CTX60, Deltal and Deltis alarm ranges also work in 2G.

**These 2 products were discontinued at the end of December 2023.
