Eco-gestures are everyday actions that can be adopted with a view to living more simply, but also to reduce your energy consumption, your carbon footprint, and the waste that you generate.

We have picked out 5 eco-gestures that you can adopt on a daily basis to reduce your energy consumption.

1- TURN DOWN YOUR HEATING AT NIGHT AND WHEN YOU'RE NOT AT HOME

It is possible to make energy savings by programming your heating to automatically turn down at night or when you're not at home, either by zone or by room!

TIP

Set the temperature to 19 degrees in rooms that are occupied during the day, and to 16 degrees during the night and in rooms that are seldom occupied during the day. And if you are away for several days, set the temperature to around 12 degrees and programme it to go back up to 19 degrees for your return!

OUR ADVICE

Anticipate changes in temperature so as to adapt the temperature of your heating at the right time. Automate the programming of the heating and your eco-gesture will require practically no effort on your part whatsoever!

2- AUTOMATE YOUR ROLLER SHUTTERS TO KEEP THE HEAT IN

It really is worthwhile taking advantage of the sunshine as a means by which to heat the inside of your home. Roller shutters provide considerable protection in winter, by retaining heat!

TIP

You're away and the weather is dreary? Keep your shutters closed to retain the heat! By closing your shutters, the windows will not cool down, and the inside of the home will not be overcome by the feeling of cold. Conversely, keep large shutters open if it is sunny, to make the most of the natural heat.

OUR ADVICE

Consider roller shutters that adapt automatically. Automate their positioning based on the sunlight, so as to adjust the temperature in your home without having to think about it, and your eco-gesture will take care of itself!

3- REDUCE LIGHT INTENSITY

By reducing the brightness of your lights, you will reduce your energy consumption.

TIP

Simply reduce the brightness of your lights using dimmers. Adjust your level or colour of lighting to a brightness of 75% to save energy: 75% light intensity = 75% energy consumed!

OUR ADVICE

You can also limit needless lighting consumption by centralising, switching on/off on a single control, or by controlling their status via a dedicated application.

4- SWITCH OFF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES THAT ARE IN STANDBY

To limit your electricity consumption, consider switching off your electronic appliances altogether! For example - don't leave your computer on standby, switch off your printer between printouts...

TIP

Use switchable multi-socket adapters to switch off your appliances at the same time, for example, your TV, VCR, and TV box. Better yet, connect the multi-socket adapter to a smart socket to schedule the switching off of these devices during the night.

OUR ADVICE

Take things a step further by tracking your consumption to make energy savings. With smart sockets, you can also check your consumption at any time, on your app!

You then have an immediate and precise overview of your consumption with weekly, monthly, or yearly monitoring, which can help you make efficient use of your devices, by switching them off from standby, for example.

5- VENTILATE FOR 10 MINUTES PER DAY

Good ventilation improves the efficiency of your heating, promoting the intake of air with a lower humidity level. Good ventilation also allows you to make energy savings!

TIP

Opening several windows for 10 minutes, with the heating switched off, will cleanse the interior air while avoiding major heat loss.

OUR ADVICE

Switching off your heating while ventilating is an eco-gesture that can be performed without even thinking about it, thanks to smart solutions such as magnetic door/window contacts.
