ErP: eco-design and energy labelling

ErP eco-design and energy labelling

4 questions explaining ErP eco-design and energy labelling for heating systems.

#1 What are ErP regulations?

ErP regulation, or Energy-related Product regulation, aims to improve the energy efficiency of devices that consume energy in order to protect the environment. The ErP directive is based on two regulations:

  • The Ecodesign directive (2009/125/EC) manufacturers must undertake to include environmental characteristics in all stages of a product's life cycle. Products that comply with ecodesign requirements bear the "EC" brand and can be sold anywhere in the European Union.
  • The energy labelling directive (2010/30/EU): the standard values defined allow the classification of products based on their energy efficiency. This gives you a means for comparing their performance prior to purchase and allows you to purchase products that use less energy.

#2 What systems are affected?

Since 26 September 2015, measures related to ecodesign and energy labelling have been complemented by regulations applicable to new families of products, considered as batches:

  • batch 1 concerns:
    • heating equipment (boiler, heat pump)
    • combined systems including heating equipment, a temperature regulator and a solar device
  • batch 2 concerns:
    • water heater, hot water cylinders
    • combined systems including a water heater and a solar device.

This means new heating and hot water systems are classed from G to A++ based on their energy performance.

#3 How to find out the performance of Delta Dore regulation products?

To determine the efficiency of a combined system the technical specifications of components are included in the evaluation of the performance. Due to their functions, Delta Dore heating regulation products are classed in category IV. This category is included in the general calculation of the energy performance of the heating system installed.

Class

Gains

CLASS I

1%

Start/stop room thermostat (mechanical)

CLASS II

2%

Regulation with outdoor temperature, used with adjustable heat sources

CLASS III

1.5%

Regulation with outdoor temperature, used with ON/OFF heat sources

CLASS IV

2%

ON/OFF room thermostat with PI regulator controlling an ON/OFF heat source

CLASS V

3%

Adjustable room thermostat regulating an adjustable heat sources

CLASS VI

4%

Regulation with outdoor temperature and room sensor, used with adjustable heat sources

CLASS VII

3.5%

Regulation with outdoor temperature and room sensor, used with ON/OFF heat sources

CLASS VIII

5%

Multi-zone regulation with temperature sensors, used with adjustable heat sources

#4 What are the obligations of installers?

Following the installation of your new heating device, your installer will supply you with a label that will indicate the performance of your combined system.

In order to prepare this energy efficiency label, your installer must know the ErP class of the heat generator installed and the Delta Dore regulation products.

You can find the list of Delta Dore products concerned by this directive by downloading the summary file with the ErP performances of our products.
